Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a light-weight intake device for a diesel engine at a low cost by providing an air surge tank where the inlets of a plurality of intake tubes get together and further providing within the air surge tank an air filter element having a convex-shaped cross-section instead of an auxiliary intake tube, air cleaner vessel, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The air surge tank 4 where the inlets of the intake tubes get together is provided at one end with an air introduction opening 6 and secured to the intake tubes in suck a manner that a tank case 9 of the air surge tank 4 is fixed by means of fasteners 10 to a bottom plate 8 which is fixed by means of bolts to a flange 5 of the intake tube inlets. The inside of the air surge tank 4 is divided by a partition 12 in the longitudinal direction, defining an air filter chamber 13 into which the inlets of the intake tubes 2 are opened on one side. Within the air filter chamber 13 is arranged the air filter element 14 having a substantially U-shaped cross-section with its concave part facing the inlets of the intake tubes 2. On the opposite side of the partition 12 is defined an air introduction chamber 15, to which the air introduction opening 6 is opened at one end thereof.
