Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a gas for furnace air stably, by bringing a gas to be purified into contact with vapor of an alkaline earth metal so that impurities in the gas are converted into metallic oxides cooling the metallic oxides which are removed.
CONSTITUTION: The metal melting pot A with its periphery surrounded by the heat-resistant wall 5 with the heater 2, sealed by the cover 4, is charged with the alkaline earth metal 4, e.g., Mg, Ca, etc. and the metal 3 is heated by the heater 2 so that its vapor is produced. A gas to be purified having about four nine is fed from the blow-off pipe 1 to the pot A, and the gas and the vapor of metal element are introduced from the conduit 6 into the reaction pot B surrounded by the heat- resistant wall 9 with the heater 7. Impurities, e.g., O2, H2O, etc., in the gas to be purified are reacted with the vapor of metal element to form metallic oxides. The oxides and gas are sent through the conduit 8 to the outer chamber 12 of the double cylindrical cooling chamber C which is divided by the outer wall 10 and the inner wall 11. The gas and oxides are introduced into the inner chamber 13 while being cooled, the oxides are removed by the filters 141W143 set on the channel, and the gas is discharged from the discharge pipe 15.
