Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically separate the two liquids in a receiver tank which have different specific gravities and have no compatibility to each other by detecting the interface of said two liquids with a reflection type ultrasonic wave detector and changing over the valve provided to the take-out pipe of the receiver tank by means of the detected signal thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Two liquids which have a difference in mutual specific gravities and do not have compatibility, such as the unreacted matter and condensated water in condensation process of a phenolic resin, are put into a receiver tank 1. At the time when the two liquids separate and exist owing to the difference of specific gravities in the tank, a main valve 9 is opened and a change-over valve 5 is opened to a heavy specific gravity liquid take-out pipe 3, through which the higher specific gravity liquids is taken out. At this time, the arrival of the interface of the two liquids at a set level is detected by a reflection type ultrasonic detector 2 consisting of a transmitter 2a and a receiver 2b, and a control signal 10 is operated by the detected signal thereof to change over the valve 5 to a light specific gravity liquid take-out pipe 4. The two liquid of different specific gravities having no compatibility are automatically and perfectly separated.
