Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need to use a solid-liquid separator and intermediate storage tank by dividing a fixed-bed type catalytic oxidation tank into plural chambers and by nearly equalizing the flow rate for purification in one chamber to the total treating quantity of the plural chambers.
CONSTITUTION: Fixed-bed type catalytic oxidation tank 1 packed with a packing material having aerobic microbes inserted in the surface and removing BOD by introducing the water to be treated containing BOD from the lower part of packing layer 16 together with air is divided into plural chambers nearly equal in sectional area, for example, three chambers T1, T2 and T3. The treating quantity of tank 1, i.e. the total treating quantity of three chambers T1, T2 and T3 is nearly equalized to the flow rate for purification of one chamber, e.g. chamber T1. Therefore, the inflow of the water to be treated and ventilation for chambers T2 and T3 are stopped and the inflow of the water to be treated and ventilation for chamber T1 are carried out three times to make it possible to purify packing layer 16 in chamber T1. Thus, waste of washing water is discharged from tank 1 at the same flow rate, so that a solid-liquid separator and intermediate storage tank required to clean layer 16 are unnecessary.
