Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled dispersion having high stability, useful as paint, etc. and giving a coating film having excellent weatherability, by dispersing a block copolymer derived from a copolymer of a specific polymeric peroxide, an unsaturated carboxylic acid, etc. and a specific monomer, in an aqueous medium.
CONSTITUTION: A peroxy-bond-containing copolymer obtained by the copolymerization of (A) a polymeric peroxide of formula I [R1 is 1W18C hydrocarbon; R2 is 2W20C alkylene, a group of formula II (R3 is H or methyl; R4 is 2W20C alkylene, etc.; m is 1W13), etc.; n is 2W20] or formula III, (B) 5W40wt% of a vinyl- containing unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (C) 95W60wt% of a vinyl monomer other than the component (B), is block-copolymerized in a water-soluble organic solvent with (D) a monomer other than the component (B) and capable of giving a polymer insoluble in water or a mixture of water and the water-soluble organic solvent. More than 50 equivalent % of the carboxylic acid of the component (B) in the block copolymer is neutralized, and the copolymer is dispersed in water or a mixture of water and the water-soluble organic solvent.
