Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled control agent, capable of exhibiting improved effects on a root knot nematode doing much damage to crops such as tomatoes without degassing in soil and giving phytotoxicity, and containing a 1-thienylalcohol derivative as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A control agent against injurious organisms containing a 1-thienylalcohol derivative expressed by the formula (R is H or lower acyl; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lower alkyl containing one or more halogens), e.g. 2,2,2-trichloro-1- (2-thienyl)ethanol, and obtained by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of thiophene with the corresponding aldehyde as an active constituent. The above-mentioned compound is mixed with a liquid or solid carrier and used as any form of an emulsion, oil, granule, wettable powder, etc. The agent may be used not only alone but also in a mixture with other agricultural chemicals, e.g. a herbicide, germicide or insecticide, or a fertilizer.
