Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a high-quality tracking control signal, by synthesizing the staircase-shaped position correcting quantity signal of a rotary head based on the difference of tape speed between the recording and reproduction with the prescribed saw-tooth wave signal and then giving a control to the head position.
CONSTITUTION: The signal REP produced by a rotary encorder interlocking to a capstan or the like is counted by the counter circuit 16 which is reset by the reproduced reference clock signal CTP to be turned to the tape speed signal. The position correcting staircase signal which increases gradually in case the speed differs between the recording and reproduction is generated with every turn of the rotary head from the staircase wave generating circuit 18 and via the frequency step control circuit 17 to which the phase detection signal DTP of the rotary head position and the tape travelling direction signal TRD from the pickup coil with addition of the tape speed signal. This position correcting staircase signal is synthesized through the synthesizing circuit 21 with the saw-tooth wave of the frequency according to the tape speed and via the frequency discriminating circuit 18 and the saw-tooth wave generating circuit 20. In such way, a good-quality rotary head tracking control signal, which is equivalent to the position signal waveform with which the rotary head moves centering on the track, can be obtained.
