Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize a detection of the head position on a track without vibrating the head, by comparing the two outputs of the composite head which is formed along with the auxiliary magnetic head having a small width.
CONSTITUTION: The composite head 4, comprising the normal reproduction head 5 the width of which is almost equal to the track width and the auxiliary head 6 having a small width which is equal to 1/2 of the head 5 is formed on the bimorph plate 9. The reproduced outputs of these heads 5 and 6 are compared with each other through the level comparator 16, and then the head position is detected on the track. Thus the displacement of the plate 9 is controlled via the control signal generator 19. Accordingly, the head position on the track can be detected without vibrating the head to secure an automatic tracking control. As a result, a steady reproduction is possible with the head having no vibration.
