Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the magnetic properties of a magnetic recording medium and reduce the coefficient of friction, by adding a specified amount of carbon black to the magnetic layer composition in a range of a prescribed grain size.
CONSTITUTION: The carbon black having the 500mμW1.5μ mean grain size is added to the magnetic layer containing the binder as well as the magnetic powder formed on a magnetic recording medium by 0.2W20pts.wt. to the 100pts.wt. magnetic powder. Owing to this control of the grain size, the chain-shaped structure is not formed among the carbon blacks to each other. Thus the dispersing property and the magnetic property can be increased for the magnetic recording medium. Furthermore, the coefficient of elasticity is increased with the coefficient of friction reduced for the magnetic layer film by the reinforcement effect obtained with addition of the carbon black.
