Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare titled emulsion, excellent in mechanical stability and pigmentmiscibility, stably without producting an aggregate, by the emulsion polymerization of a radical-polymerizable monomer in the presence of a specified emulsifier.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of a radical-polymerizable monomer such as an alkyl (meth)acrylate or styrene, is polymerized with addition of (a) 5W60pts.wt. of a polybutadiene of number-average MW 300W30,000, having a hydrophilic group at the terminal, and, if necessary, of (b) 5W60pts.wt. of a maleinized isoprene resin of acid value 20W350, prepared by the addition of a maleic compound (e.g.; maleic anhydride, maleimide) to an isoprene resin of number-average MW 500W15,000, in an aqueous medium, in the presence of a polymerization initiator, to obtain a synthetic resin emulsion, having excellent properties as a paint, adhesive, etc.
