Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain diester of tartaric acid or epoxysuccinic acid without side reactions such as polymerization, by the reaction of tartaric acid or epoxysuccinic acid with an unsaturated alcohol using a fluorine-containing sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin as a catalyst which can be reused after the filtration.
CONSTITUTION: Tartaric acid or epoxysuccinic acid is made to react with an unsaturated alcohol (e.g. allyl alcohol, methallyl alcohol) in the presence of a fluorine- containing sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin to give a diester of the above acid. The ion exchange resin mentioned above is preferably that of the perfluorocarbon sulfonic acid type. The most typical one is a copolymer of the compound of formula I and formula II. The resin can be used in the form of a membrane, powder and particulate. It is used in an amount of 0.001W0.5mol equivalent on the base of sulfonic acid group to 1mol of the starting acid.
USE: Raw material of resins, copolymerization monomers, and crosslinking agents.
