Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A cyclopent[b]indole derivative expressed by formula I (R1 and R3 are lower alkoxyl; R2 is lower alkyl; R4 is aralkyl; R5 is H or lower alkoxycarbonyl; X is 0 or two hydrogen atoms).
EXAMPLE: Ethyl 4-benzyl-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-5, 7-dimethoxy-6-methyl-3-oxo-cyclopent [b]indole-2-carboxylate.
USE: Improved pharmaceutical actions on the central nervous system.
PROCESS: An aniline derivative of formula II is diazotized and combined with a cyclopentanone derivative of formula III (R6 is lower alkyl). The resultant product of formula IV is subjected to the ring opening in the presence of a base to give a dicarboxylic acid derivative, which is then treated with an acid to carry out the indole ring closure. The resultant product is then aralkylated with a compound of the formula R4X (X is halogen) to afford the compound of formula I (R5 is COOR6; X is O).
