Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the load of a boosting transformer to realize a small size of the device, by connecting a capacitor via a rectifier between the output terminal and the intermediate terminal of the secondary winding of the boosting transformer and then giving an on/off control to the charging circuit in accordance with the charging voltage.
CONSTITUTION: The capacitors 131 and 132 are connected between the intermediate terminal and the terminal of the secondary winding of the boosting transformer 10 with the primary winding connected to the AC power source and via the diodes 111 and 112 plus the switching transistors 121 and 122. The output of the transformer 10 is delivered to the xenon discharge tube 15 via the reactor 14. The charge voltage of the capacitors 131 and 132 each is detected from the connection point of the serial circuit consisting of the resistances 211 and 212 and then compared with the set value 23 via the comparator 22. And in case the charge voltage is lower than the set value, the light emission is stopped for the diodes 191 and 192. Then the transistors 121 and 122 conduct to charge the capacitor. While the charging is stopped when the charge voltage is higher than the set value.
