Abstract

PURPOSE:To stably display light emitting diodes even when the polarity of a power source is not certain and voltage variations are high by supplying light emitting diodes with a predetermined current for lighting through a surface absorbing circuit, a rectifier circuit and a current limitting circuit. CONSTITUTION:A surge voltage absorbing circuit (a) consisting of a resistor R1 and a varister VS1 is connected to power source input terminals 1, 2 and a surge voltage is reduced by the resistor R1 by using the fact that the voltage across the varister VS1 becomes the varister voltage when a surge voltage is applied to the varister VS1. The output in the surge voltage absorbing circuit (a) is rectified by a rectifier circuit (b) consisting of diodes D1-D4 and is applied to light emitting diodes LED1-LED2 through a current limitting circuit (c) consisting of resistors R2, R3 and transistors TR1, TR2. In the current limitting circuit (c), when an input voltage exceeds a set value, the transistor TR2 will be turned on to maintain the current of the TR1 at a constant value.
