Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the entire size of a pedal operating unit by constituting same such that a master-back is arranged in series with a pedal lever and a master cylinder is directed in a lateral direction whereby a pedal operating force is turned into another direction intermediate the master-back and the master cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: If a brake pedal 9 is treadled down to pivot a pedal lever 9a downwardly, a valve operating rod 32 of a master-back 21 is pushed upwardly through a collar 11 and an arm 30 which are integral with the pedal lever 9a. A push rod 35 of the master-back 21 is thereupon pushed in the same direction so that a push rod 38 of a master cylinder 37 is pushed leftwardly through an arm 33, a tubular member 27, and another arm 34. As a result, braking hydraulic pressure is generated at the master cylinder 37 to thereby brake the car. By such constitution, dimensions of a pedal operating unit taken in a forward and backward direction and in a leftward and rightward direction can be substantially reduced.
