Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a uniform sintered layer by disposing a water-cooling pipe on the outside circumferential surface of a solid roll core material in its lengthwise direction, mounting a metallic capsule packed with metallic powder to this and subjecting the same to hot hydrostatic pressing.
CONSTITUTION: A cooling-water pipe 10 is disposed in the hollow groove 8 formed on the outside circumferential surface of a solid roll core material 1 in its axial direction, and a cooling water line in the roll is formed in communication with the through-holes 9, 9' pierced in the core material 1. A cylindrical metallic capsule 3 forming an annular space 2 is mounted to the outside circumferential surface of the core material 1 and is welded in one body to the core material 1. Thence, metal powder 4 is packed and a cap body 3c is secured. A deaerating pipe 12 is provided to the cap body 3c to remove air. The assembled roll body is subjected to hot hydrostatic pressing. After the treatment, the metallic capsule 3 is removed by machining, and the roll is subjected to required working such as grinding of the sintered layer surface, hardening, and tempering. Roll supporting parts 1b, 1b' having beforehand been formed are metallurgically or mechanically joined to this roll body.
