Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce at a low cost CaC2 and a gaseous fuel consisting of CO, H2 and aliph. hydrocarbons, by a method wherein limestone is decomposed to form CO2 and CaO, carbon and water are added to a mixt. of CO2 and CaO, and the resulting mixt. is heated.
CONSTITUTION: Limestone such as marble is charged in a furnace and heated at a temp. of 600W900°C by indirect heating to form CO2 and CaO. A proper amount of carbon and water are added to the decomposition procuts to obtain a mixt. composed of CaO, CO2, C and water. The mixt. is heated at a temp. of 950W1,300°C to produce CaC2 and a gaseous fuel composed of CO, H2 and aliph. hydrocarbons consisting mainly of CH4.
