Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent reduction of the thickness of the part of a forged piston for a disc brake into which a dust protective boot end edge is engaged, by expanding the part of a cylinder with a bottom which is at a slight distance from its open end diametrically inwards by rolling. CONSTITUTION:Being pressed on the outer circumference of a forged cylinder 24, at a distancel from its open end surface 30, a rolling roll 25 is revolved about an axis 31 of the cylinder 24 to dent it diametrically inwards in order to form a concavity 29. On the other hand, a roll 26 which has a fulcrum axis 28 crossing the axis 31 at a small angle is pressed on the inner circumference of the cylinder 24 in order to prevent reduction of the diameter of the opening 30. Moreover, the concavity 29 is cut to form a concave groove 29a to engage with a dust protective boot. Then, these surfaces are plated with chromium to form a hollow piston. Thereby, a hollow piston having a uniform thickness and excellent corrosion and wear resistances can be readily obtained without the need for, specially, heat treatment.
