Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a steel wire of high fatigue resistance by applying twists of the specific times per specific length to the steel wire having been subjected to drawing, thence inverting this to relieve residual stresses.
CONSTITUTION: A steel wire obtained by subjecting a carbon steel wire having a required diameter to one to several times of drawing is given with twists of one or more times per length of 100 times the diameter of the wire after drawing, after which it is inverted so as to be untwisted until there are no more residual torsional stresses generated. For example, a 0.7% carbon steel wire of 1.1mm in diameter is subjected to patenting, after which it is brass-plated and is drawn down to 0.22mmϕ, whereby the steel wire is formed. Twists of 3 times per length of 22mm are given to this wire and it is positively inverted after this until there are no more revolutions, whereby the twists are removed. Thereby, the steel wire of high fatigue resistance is obtained.
