Abstract

PURPOSE: To chamfer a plate member accurately in a uniform chamfering width, by bringing a rotary disk cutter fixed in place into contact with edge portions of the plate member carried at a constant speed.
CONSTITUTION: The disk cutter 1 includes an annular cutter blade 5 attached to the peripheral portion of the cutter 1 in the manner that it is projected outward from the peripheral portion of the main body of the cutter 1. The cutter 1 is rotated by a motor 12. A steel strip 10 is carried at a constant speed by means of upper and lower feed rollers 11a, 11b. The disk cutter 1 is rotated with an inclination angle of about 30° to the plane of the steel strip 10 and brought into contact with its edge portion 13 in the manner that the its cutter blade 5 is held in contact with the same at two points, so as to chamfer the edge portion 13 in a uniform width. Since, in accordance with the above method, the cutter blade 5 is projected outward from the peripheral portion of the main body of cutter 1, it is enabled to protect the cutting tool against overheating and to prevent occurrence of secondary burrs.
