Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a simple optical branching filter by providing a regular 3N (N>1)-hedral pyramidal prism of which the diametrally opposing ridgelines are intersecting orthogonally at the peak, a holder which brings into contact with said prism at its base and has sleeves in the position corresponding to the points of intersection of the plane parallel to said base and the ridgelines, and optical fiber cables inserted into said sleeves. CONSTITUTION:With a regular 3N-hedral pyramidal prism 1 of which the diametrally opposing ridgelines intersect mutually orthogonally, for example, in the case of N=2, sleeves 31-36 are provided to a holder 2 made of a metal in contact with the base of said prism, in the positions opposing to the points of intersection of the plane parallel to the base of the prism 1 and the ridgelines. Optical fiber cables 41-46 are inserted into these sleeves 31-36, and the entire part is held covered with an opaque resin. The light signal P10 incident from, for example, the optical fiber cable 41 is split to the positions B1 and C1 corresponding to the A1 on two sets of the mutually orthogonally intersecting ridgelines at the point A1 of intersection of the ridgelines, and these are outputted as light signals P11 and P12 from the optical fiber cables 43 and 45.
