Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a simultaneous driving of a plurality of printing mechanism and to sharply increase a printing speed at a minimum cost, by a method wherein a plurality of movable coils are mounted at a single magnetic circuit, and each movable coil is caused to hold the printing mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: A linear motor holds 2 movable coils 8 and 11. The movable coil 8 has two winding parts 7A and 7B on a single coil bobbin 6, and the movable coil 11 also has two winding parts 10A and 10B on a single coil bobbin 9. A carriage 13, holding a printing mechanism unit 108, applies a current to the winding parts 7A and 7B alternately each time it moves by a distance being one-half the width of permanent magnet pieces 1A and 1B, and moves in the same direction. Like the above, two movable coils are mounted in a single linear motor magnetic circuit, the movable coils freely move independently from each other, each printing mechanism unit is directly positioned based on a common position scale, and a printing operation take place. Thus, a mutual printing position error, which happened to conventional types, does not occur.
