Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain cryolite with a less fluorine loss and a much less ignition loss by feeding sodium aluminate heated to a predetermined temp. or above into a fluoride soln. and reacting them at a specified temp. or above.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium aluminate heated to ≥90, especially 90W120°C is added to a fluoride soln. which is, e.g., a mixed soln. of sodium fluoride and ammonium fluoride obtd. by the ammonolysis of sodium silicofluoride, and they are reacted at ≥60°C. In this reaction the pH is maintained at 3W12, especially 3W11. The Na2O to Al2O3 molar ratio of the sodium aluminate is ≥1.0, especially about 1.10W1.30. On the other hand, preferred aquivalent ratio (6F/Al) is 1.0W1.2. BY the above-mentioned reaction cryolite with a less ignition loss is obtd.
