Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a low-oxygen and low-sulfur steel by a procedure in which a CaO-containing flux is blown into a deoxidized molten steel in a ladle for further deoxidization and desulfurization and then a Ca-alloy is blown into the molten steel to control the shape of sulfide present in the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel from a steel-making furnace is deoxidized by means of Al, Fe-Si alloy, Fe-Mn alloy, etc., and then a CaO-containing flux is blown into the molten steel by means of an inert gas, e.g., Ar gas, etc., for further deoxidization and desulfurization. Then, a Ca alloy is blown into the molten steel to suppress the formation of MnS and also to form a spherical inclusion of calcium aluminate sulfide. thus, a low oxygen and low sulfur steel which is excellent in toughness and resistance to hydrogen fracture can be positively obtained.
