Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the wear, acid and welding resistance of the titled solid carbide alloy material by forming an Hf compound layer, a solid solution layer of Hf compound and Ti compound and a Ti compound layer in sequence on the surface of the solid carbide alloy, followed by heat treatment below the specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of the solid carbide alloy such as a cemented carbide and a cermet, formed are an Hf compound layer made of HfC, a solid solution layer of Hf compound and Ti compound made of (Hf.Ti)C or the like and a Ti compound layer made of TiC or the like in the order. The carbide undergoes heat treatment below the liquid phase development temperature in the inert gas atmosphere or the like to relax the stress of the coated layers whereby the adhesivity between the layers is improved. In the formation of the layers, the use of the improved vapor phase growth method in which the coating reaction is produced in the glow discharge (including plasma discharge) under the reduced pressure can enhance the speed of forming the film by improving the uniformity of the film.
