Abstract
PURPOSE:To accomplish the decoration simply at a low cost without damage to the appearance of material by forming a precious metal film made of Au, Pt or the like with sputtering after undercoating of a transparent metal film on the surface of material to be decorated. CONSTITUTION:Material to be decorated such as glass, ceramics, plastics or the like is placed into a vacuum vessel to make a specified mixed gas atmosphere. Subsquently, DC voltage is applied to a transparent metal, for example, In2O3-SnO2 alloy or the like as the first target material to cause sputtering whereby a transparent metal film is formed on the article to be decorated. Then, DC voltage is applied to a precious metal such as Au and Pt to cause sputtering whereby a precious metal layer is formed on the transparent metal layer. This enables beautiful decoration by a precious metal thin film without damaging the beauty of the intended article at all.
