Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a toner for electrostatic developer to prevent poor fixing or offset phenomenon and copying to be effected at high speed, by using a binding resin of multivalent metal salts of a specified polymer containing carboxyl groups for the toner.
CONSTITUTION: An addition-polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic acid and a monomer such as styrene are copolymerized to make a polymer containing carboxyl groups. This polymer and halogenide, hydroxide, alkoxide, or the like of a metal, such as Al, Ag, Ba, Ca, Cd, or Co are reacted by a proper method to form a multivalent metal salt of the polymer for use in a binder resin for toner. This polymer is prepared so as to satisfy equations 1, 2, and 3 in which N is mole number/g of carboxyl ions of the metal salts, Ti is softening point of the metal salt of polymer, Ts is softening point of the carboxyl containing polymer, and Tg is glass transition point of the metal salt of polymer.
