Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a margin for the action voltage of a liq. crystal display device to be expanded by composing the device essentially of inorg. liq. crystal orienting films and a liq. crystal layer contg. a 10W35wt% liq. crystal material having a terminal alkoxy group.
CONSTITUTION: This liq. crystal display device is composed of parallel two substrates each having an electrode and a liq. crystal orienting film, a liq. crystal layer contg. oriented twisted molecules and held between the substrates, and polarizers placed before and behind the layer. Since the orienting film is made of inorg. substance and the liq. crystal layer is characterized by the 10W35wt% content of a liq. crystal material having a terminal alkoxy group, a margin for the action voltage can be expanded, the time division driving of a dot matrix panel, etc. is enabled, and usage conditions such as service temp. range and power source voltage setting are expanded. An azoxy type liq. crystal is not used at all, so this device does not assume a dark yellow color.
