Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an anti-inglammatory and pain- killing drug advantageously, by using an inexpensive and readily obtainable 3- halobenzophenone as a raw material, and deriving it through a novel benzophenon derivative and a novel 3-(2-oxo-3-butyl)benzophenone compound.
CONSTITUTION: A 3-halobenzophenone shown by the formula I (X is halogen) is reacted with a sodium or potassium salt of acetylacetone in the presence of a metal catalyst to give a novel benzophenone derivative shown by the formula II, which is methylated with a methylating agent in the presence of an organic solvent, an alkali aqueous solution, and phase transferring catalyst, to form a novel 3-(2-oxo-3-butyl) benzophenone compound shown by the formula III. This compound is oxidized with an oxidizing agent, to give a 2-(3-benzoylphenyl)alkanoic acid shown by the formula IV.
EFFECT: The number of processes is relatively few, and the operation of every process is simple, and the reaction conditions are mild.
