Abstract

PURPOSE: An alkali metal hydroxide or other compounds are adde to the titled polyol which has been prepared in the presence of an alkaline catalyst to adjust the ratio of K/Na to a specific value and the polyol is purified, thus facilitating the filtration and improving the problems of turbidity and odor.
CONSTITUTION: A crude polyetherpolyol prepared in the presence of an alkaline catalyst is combined with an alkali metal hydroxide and/or an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate such as sodium hydroxide, potassium sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate, preferably with its aqueous solution, whereby the equivalent ratio of K/Na in the polyol is adjusted to 3/1W1/3. The resultant mixture is neutralized with a mineral acid with a dissolution constant of higher than 10-3 in the aqueous solution such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid to adjust the pH to 6.5W 7.5. Then, water is removed under reduced pressure and filtered to give to purified product.
