Abstract

PURPOSE: To discriminate the kind of a tape reel by detecting rotation periods of a supply tape reel and a take-up tape reel respectively and summing up them then comparing the sum with a predetermined value.
CONSTITUTION: Supply-reel rotation detector 1 and take-up-reel rotation detector 2 generate pulses according to the rotation of each reel and they are counted by counters 3 and 7, whose counted values are multiplied by the constant, corresponding to a tape speed, with multipliers 5 and 8 to generate signals fS and fT which are substantially the periods of both the reels. fS and fT are added together by adder 9, and the resultant is supplied to comparator 10 which compares it with threshold values preset on the basis of the kinds of cassettes differing in hub diameter. The hub diameter of the cassette given by comparator 10 is supplied to an operator for the time of the remaining amount of the tape to be used for calculation and at the same time displayed on display device 11.
