Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent picture when transmitting a color TV signal to a transmission line of a narrow band by making use of the correlation between adjacent lines, by transmitting even a signal, such as VIR and VIT signals, having no line correlation excellently without expanding the required band width. CONSTITUTION:A normal video signal is compressed into four bits by a compressor and transmitted and a VIR or VIT signal is divided into the high-order four bits and low-order four bits to solve the over of the band of a transmission line. The division into the high-order bits and low-order bits is performed by the time axis expander composed of register 58, memory 61 and OR circuit 62 between input terminal 57 and output terminal 63; the high-order bits 59 are transferred in one horizontal scan period when the VIR signal is inserted and the low-order bits 60 are also transferred in the next one horizontal scan period. Further, the time axis compressor composed of memory 67 and register 68 between input terminal 64 and output terminal 69 compresses the high-order words and low-order words to transmit excellently signals, such as the VIR and VIT signal, having no line correlation without expanding the band width.
