Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a similar spherical aberration to that in a tripotential typed electron lens, by providing another electrode between two electrodes with a different potential for constituting an electron lens and applying no direct potential to said new electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 41 is a focus electrode and an electrode 43 is a final anode. Between the electrodes 41, 43 an electrode 42, to which no external potential is connected, is provided. A distribution of potential generated by these three electrodes 41-43 can be arranged the same as that of a tripotential typed electron lens in which its distribution of potential is generated by applying a potential from the outside, thus capable of decreasing a spherical aberration.
