Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the effect of a noise signal, by measuring the time when the output level of an amplifier that amplifies a received signal becomes higher than the reference level and then detecting a normal ultrasonic signal to be received based on the result of the above-mentioned measurement of time. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic signal received by a wave transmitting/receiving device 4 is supplied to a variable gain amplifier 8 via a switching circuit 3. A comparator 10 compares the output of the amplifier 8 with the reference level, and delivers the output to an arithmetic control circuit 15 in case the output of the amplifier 8 is higher than the reference level. The circuit 15 measures the time when the output of the comparator 10 is set at H level and detects a normal ultrasonic signal to be received based on the result of the measurement of time. A the same time, the gain of the amplifier 8 is controlled from the result of the above-mentioned result of measurement.
