PURPOSE:To detect an error with high probability, by receiving coded data after adding an error detection correcting code and then dividing the received data into plural groups for checking. CONSTITUTION:Coded data 1 is divided into two groups by an error detection correcting code. These two groups are supplied to a parity checking circuit 2, respectively. The checked results 40 and 41 of the circuit 2 are sent to an error deciding circuit 3 to decide the type of the error. When an error is reported from one of these parity checking results 40 and 41, an error detection reporting signal 61 is transmitted. In case both results 40 and 41 report the detection of an error respectively, a detection reporting signal 60 of 2-bit error is transmitted.
