Abstract
PURPOSE: A polymer solution of specific composition is spun, drawn and dried under specific conditions to eliminate fine pores to produce the titled synthetic fiber of high water absorption and good dyeability inexpensively in an industrial scale.
CONSTITUTION: A solution containing a polymer composed of 50W98pts.wt. of a vinyl polymer and 2W50pts. of cellulose acetate with a viscosity satisfying the equation where X is the ball falling viscosity of the vinyl polymer and Y is the viscosity of the cellulose acetate is extruded into fiber and subjected to the primary drawing at a draw ratio of 2.5W8.0. The resultant wet fiber is dried at 100W180°C until the water content becomes less than 1.0wt%. The phase separation between the vinyl polymer and the cellulose acetate becomes clearer and the water absorption increases, further moderate fiber properties are kept by effecting the secondary drawing under moisture heating.
