Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The 1-halogeno-6-methyl-5-hepten-2-ol of formulaI(X is halogen; Y is H or hydroxyl-protecting group) and its derivative.
EXAMPLE: 1-Chloro-6-methyl-5-hepten-2-ol.
USE: An intermediate for the synthesis of (1RS, 4RS, 5RS)-4-(4,8-dimethyl-5-hydroxy-7-nonenyl)-4-methyl-3,8-dioxabicyclo-[3,2,1]-octane-1-acetic acid useful as a contraceptive.
PROCESS: The compound of formula IV which is one of the compounds of formula I can be prepared by (1) reacting a prenyl halide of formula II (Z is halogen) with magnesium, and (2) reacting the resultant prenyl magnesium halogenide with an epihalogenohydrin of formula III.
