Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a metal coated optical fiber having superior heat resitance and mechanical strength by forming a metal coating layer having airtightness on the outer side of an optical fiber in thight contact therewith, forming a metal coating layer made of mild metal on the outer side thereof and coating a metallic pipe on the outer side thereof. CONSTITUTION:A metallic pipe 4 consisting in forming a metal coating layer 2 having airtightness of Al, Cu, etc. with 1,000-8,000Angstrom thickness on the outer side of an optical fiber 1, forming a metal coating layer 3 of mild metal selected from Al, Sn, Pb, Zn, Cu, Ni, etc. with 200-800mum thickness on the outer side thereof, covering the outer side thereof with a metallic pipe made by roll forming a metallic tape to a pipe and welding the joint thereof, thence extending the pipe is formed. Thereby, the metal coated optical fiber having high heat resistance and mechanical strength is obtained.
