Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the center position of a disc with good accuracy, by taking a pulse signal having a width in response to the width of an image corresponding to a recording track as an up/down command signal, and using an up/down counter counting a prescribed clock pulse. CONSTITUTION:Each image pickup output of image sensors 6-9 passes through image pickup signal processing circuits 11a-d and is converted into a binary level at AD converters 12a-d. This pulse signal has a pulse width in response to the width of image by an image pickup element corresponding to a recording track. A pulse signal output of the AD converters 12a-b with the image sensors 6, 7 checking the shift toward X is applied to an exclusive logical sum gate 13 and a gate signal having a difference of width of the pluse signals, i.e. a pulse width indicating the extent of shift toward the X direction is obtained. Since a counter 15 shows the content of count in response to the width of gate pulse, a signal corresponding to the extent of shift toward the X direction is obtained. This is the same for the Y direction.
