Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce space for mounting on a vehicle and to improve operability by switching and displaying pictures, showing the kinds and operation items of car-mounted devices, on a CRT, and by selecting the operation items by cutting off light which passes through a light intersection formed on the front surface of the CRT. CONSTITUTION:On the upper lateral frame and left longitudinal frame of a CRT display screen, light emitting elements 12a-12d, and 12e-12h which emit light other than visible light, and lenses 13a-13d, and 13e-13h which make the emitted light into parallel light beams for irradiation are arrayed, thus constituting an optical matrix. On the lower lateral frame and right longitudinal frame of the CRT screen, photodetecting elements 14a-14d, and 14e-14h are arrayed. The outputs of the respective photodetecting elements are inputted to an operation place detecting circuit 16 through row and column latch circuits 15a and 15b. On the CRT, pictures of kinds of car-mounted drvices are displayed, and when light at the light intersection of a desired device position in the image is cut off with a finger, the circuit 16 sends a signal to perform switching to the cut-off position. Then, light at the light intersection of a desired positon in the operation item display screen is cut off to operate the car-mounted device.
