Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled compsn. which can be stored stably over a long period of time in the absence of moisture and becomes a rubbery elastomer when contacted with moisture, consisting of a silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane, an organosilane (condensed partial hydrolyzate) and a specified copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: A vinyl monomer of formulaI[wherein R2 is H, a monovalent unsubstituted or substd. hydrocarbon group; R3 is (hydroxy)alkyl, alkenyl, halogen]is reacted with 0.01W50wt% silane compd. of formula II (wherein R4, R6, R7 are each R2; R5 is a bivalent 1W6C hydrocarbon group; b is 0, 2) in the presence of a free radical-generating initiator to produce a copolymer (C). Then 0.1W20pts.wt. of organosilane (B) of formula III (wherein R1 is a monovalent unsubstituted or substd. hydrocarbon group, alkoxy; X is directly bonded to Si atom and a hydrolyzable group; a is 0W3; component B contains an average of 2 or more X groups per molecule) (or condensed partial hydrolyzate) and 0.01W 10,000pts.wt. copolymer (C) are blended with 100pts.wt. silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane (A) having a viscosity of 500W400,000cst at 25°C.
