Abstract
PURPOSE: An aggregation inhibitor of blood platelets, containing protopine or a salt thereof, useful as a preventing agent and remedy for cerebromalacia, cardiac infarction, etc., and having powerful aggregation inhibitory action on the blood platelets.
CONSTITUTION: An aggregation inhibitor of blood platelets containing protopine or a salt thereof extracted and purified from a constituent of a plant belonging to the family Papaveraceae. The protopine has aggregation inhibitory action on blood platelets about 10 times that of the aspirin, and inhibits the aggregation in an amount of 250W500μg/ml remarkably and dissociates the aggregation almost completely. The improvement in local circulation of blood by the action renders the inhibitor useful as a preventing agent and remedy for subconjunctival hemorrhage and remits the tension of ciliary muscles and congestion in a nipple. Another effect, e.g. prevention or treatment of short sight, is expectable. The oral dose is generally 1W500mg/day usually divided in several fractions. As for an injection, the dose is 0.1W100mg/day in one W divided fractions, and as for an external agent such as an eye drop, the concentration of 50W1,000μg/ml is applicable.
