Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable welding of copper and copper alloy without preheating by using a coating agent prepared by mixing 1W25% metallic oxide such as copper oxide etc., 1W20% metallic powder of Al etc. and 30W70% fluoride such as alkali metal fluoride, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A covered electrode for copper and copper alloy is formed by using a coating agent prepared by mixing 1W25% metallic oxide such as copper oxide, barium peroxide etc., 1W20% metallic powder of Al, Mg, Sn, etc. and 30W 70% fluoride such as alkali metal fluoride, alkali earth metal fluoride, alkali metal silicofluoride, alkali earth metal silicofluoride etc. In the coating agent mentioned above, components react rapidly to generate heat in welding and heats the base metal abruptly together with the heat of welding arc. Consequently, welding of copper and copper alloy becomes possible without preheating.
