PURPOSE:To receive a TV and a character broadcast efficiently, for also to receive the services of the TV and character braodcast simultaneously, by receiving a character broadcast signal, and selectively displaying the TV and character broadcasts on a screen. CONSTITUTION:In updating operation, when a display key input equipment 21 discriminates the presence of a key input, an update code discriminating circuit 20 knows the update of character information from an update code added to the character signal of a character braodcast program selected on a keyboard 12, and operates a signal switching circuit 19 through a display gate setting circuit 18 so as to display a composite signal of character information written in a display memory 13 on a CRT5, thus receiving new updated information securely. If the character information is not updated, the circuit 20 operates the circuit 19 through the circuit 18 so as to display a TV video signal on the CRT5, thereby eliminating the need to receive character information again once it is received.
