Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance rigidity against bending, torsion, etc. and reduce the noise of an engine, by coupling adjacent cylinder liners to each other and providing cooling water passages in coupled parts. CONSTITUTION:A series of cylinders 5, in which adjacent cylinder liners 2 are coupled to each other, are connected to the front wall 7 and rear wall 8 of a cylinder block through coupling walls 6 provided at the front and rear ends of the series of cylinder 5. One communication hole 9 is opened in the front coupling wall 6 and two communication holes 9 are opened in the rear coupling wall 6. Plugs 10 are fitted in the communication holes 9 to provide cooling water passages 12 which partly constitute a water jacket 11.
