Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a sliding member having superior self-lubricity, wear resistance and a long service life by subjecting the surface of a refined steel to surface hardening and sulfurizing.
CONSTITUTION: A suitable steel such as a carbon tool steel ro an alloy tool steel is annealed, worked into a prescribed shape and size, and refined to about HrC 40W50 hardness by hardening and tempering. The surface of the steel is then nitrided to form a hardened layer having about 0.3W0.5mm depht, or it is carburized to form a hardened layer having about 0.5W0.7mm depth. After the surface hardening the steel is sulfurized by about 0.1W0.4mm depth. Thus, a sulfurized coat with high self-lubricity, a carburized or nitrided-sulfurized diffused layer and a carburized or nitrided diffused layer are formed in a sliding member in order from the uppermost side.
