Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare a large amount of an inert atmosphere with a low oxigen concn. by burning a predetermined fuel in a combustion waste gas in the presence of a catalyst to consume residual oxygen in the waste gas. CONSTITUTION:A combustion waste gas generated in a fuel apparatus is introduced into a combustion furnace equipped with a catalyst layer such as platinum or palladium. A fuel such as a propane gas or the like is supplied into said combustion furnace to be combusted therein and oxygen in the combustion waste gas is consumed. Thereby, an oxygen concn. in the combustion gas is lowered and a large amount of an inert atmosphere is produced. The resulting inert atmosphere can be used in heat treatment of a metal material such as aliminum or the like.
