Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover SO2 as simple substance S by adsorbing SO2 in the waste combustion gas in carbonaceous adsorbents in the form of a sulfuric acid, decomposing part thereof to SO2 and H2O and further to H2S then allowing the same to contact the adsorbents.
CONSTITUTION: The waste gas produced in a coal firing boiler 4 is put into an adsorption tower 8, where the SO2 contained therein is adsorbed in the form of H2SO4 by adsorbents of ground carbon. The adsorbents are fed dividedly to an H2S reaction tower 16 and an desorption tower 22. In the tower 22, the adsorbents are heated to about 350W450°C, and H2SO4 is decomposed to concd. gaseous SO2 which is fed to a reduction tower 30 where it is reduced by the carbon materials therein and forms simple substance S. The S is condensed in an S condenser 38. The remaining gas contains H2S and is fed to an H2S reaction tower 16 where it contacts the adsorbents adsorbed with H2SO4, thereby forming simple substance S. The adsorbents stuck with the S is fed to the tower 22 where it is heated to about 350W 450°C and S changes to a gaseous state. This S is fed to the tower 30 by which it is recovered.
