Abstract

PURPOSE:To confirm that a conveying route is cleared, by feeding a given number of papers at the start of printing after jamming, and running the papers through the route. CONSTITUTION:When paper jam occurs in a part A of a fixing device 40, a photosensor 36 does not chage its output due to passing of the paper 31 even after lapse of a given time, permitting jamming in a conveying route to be detected and drive of a machine to be stopped. An operator informs the machine of completion of jam disposal. When jam is disposed of, for example, one sheet of paper 31 is fed. Since printing is not operated, laser irradiation of a drum 14 does not take place, and the paper 31 is sent to discharge roller 42. A change-over piece 44 is operated at the position shown with a dotted line by an actuator after disposal of jam, the paper 31 sent to the roller 42 does not enter the lower outlet 43, but it is sent to the second discharge roller 45.
