Abstract

PURPOSE: Phosphoric acid produced through the wet process is extracted with an alcohol and the extraction residue is extracted again with an extractant containing an alcohol and sulfuric acid of lower concentration than that in the first extraction to produce purified phosphoric acid of lowered sulfate group content in high extraction yield without any specific treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Phosphoric acid produced through the wet process is extracted with an alcohol to collect phosphoric acid. Further sulfuric acid and an alcohol are added to the extraction residue to effect extraction again for increasing the extraction yield wherein the concentration of the sulfuric acid is made lower than 80wt%. When the concentration of the sulfuric acid used here exceeds 80wt%, it becomes difficult to keep the content of sulfate group at 30ppm (as SO4) or less, i.e., JIS specification for industrial phosphoric acid. That is presumed that sulfate esters are formed by the dilution heat of sulfuric acid, gets mixed into the extracts and their separation is difficult by usual washing.
